Day 1: Hanoi Arrival
Today is free for your family to recover from the flight or stroll amongst broad tree-lined avenues dating from the French period. In the evening, enjoy a welcome at a local restaurant, where your children will have their first opportunity to practice their chopsticks skills.
Day 2: Hanoi City Tour
This morning, take a city tour, which will include a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum area to see his 'House on Stilts' and visit the One Pillar Pagoda. Later, head to the Temple of Literature and the Hoa Lo Prison (also known as the 'Hanoi Hilton'). Afterward, enjoy a cyclo (bicycle taxi) ride through the Old Quarter, with its '36 Streets' where each street is home to shops selling particular products such as silk street, gold street, paper street, and souvenir street. The remainder of the day is at leisure to stroll around the Hoan Kiem Lake, stopping for a coffee or ice cream at one of the many cafes surrounding it. In the evening, your family has an option to enjoy a performance of famous water puppets or return to the hotel to relax.
Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Bay
Today, make an early start for the approximately 4-hour journey to Halong Bay. This is one of the most stunningly beautiful sights in Southeast Asia with roughly 3,000 limestone peaks rising directly from the clear emerald sea. Embark on the cruise, enjoy a seafood lunch on board then start the discovery at this amazing karst scenery. Your family can stop for a kayaking journey to get to places inaccessible by boat. In the late afternoon, watch the sun go down and enjoy another lovely meal before overnighting on the boat in cabins for family with en suite facilities.
Day 4: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Fly to Danang
This morning, continue to cruise around Halong Bay and before returning to port. Then travel back to Hanoi, and transfer to the airport to take a domestic flight to Danang. On arrival, it is free for your family to recover from the flight and explore this city of bridges.
Day 5: Danang – Hoi An
After breakfast, visit Marble Mountain where your family will explore the large caves which were used by the Viet Cong as a hospital base during the war. From the peak of this mountain, behold the fantastic views over My Khe Beach and the nearby rustic countryside.
Afterward, travel to the World Heritage site of Hoi An, the original European trading port in Vietnam dating back to the mid-16th century. This ancient town is a living museum at present, with impressive wooden merchant's houses as well as pagoda and temples with Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and European architectural influences. It is also an amazing destination to wander around and enjoy the colorful riverside market. Take a walking tour of the old town and visit the Japanese Covered Bridge and Chinese Assembly Hall before the sunset.
Day 6: Hoi An Cycling Tour & Cooking Class
Today, jump on bikes for a ride on quiet roads through the countryside past local markets, schools and villages before continuing on to Cua Dai beach (5 km). Please note that it is able to provide child-sized bikes for those children who are 120cm and taller. Children riding their own bikes must be aged 7 upwards, for smaller children, there will be the option of riding on the back of their parents’ bike in a child seat or saddle.
The afternoon is dedicated to free time at the beach for swimming or relax back in town. In the evening, join an informal cooking class where adults and children alike will learn how to make some of Hoi An's specialty dishes and even participate in rolling your own spring rolls!
Day 7: Hoi An – Danang – Fly to Nha Trang – Whale Island
After breakfast, transfer to Danang airport and fly to the Cam Ranh airport in Nha Trang. Then transfer (about 3 hours) to the tropical island retreat of Whale Island. It is really a chance for your family to unwind and relax or while away the rest of the day swimming in the sea.
Day 8: Whale Island Relax & Revelry
Today, join a boat trip in the morning for a spot of mud-bathing, snorkeling and swimming before a seafood lunch is served. In the afternoon, your family has an option to visit a local fishing village and explore the Whale temple or stroll around the island for a 360-degree view of the stunning mountainous coastline, white sand beaches, and the surrounding coves.
Day 9: Nha Trang – Fly to Saigon
Depending on flight schedules, there may be time for one last dip in the sea before transferring to the airport for our flight to Saigon. It is an absorbing and exciting city where temples and historical relics stand defiantly alongside modern development while scooters pack the streets. Your family is free to recover after the flight.
Day 10: Saigon City Tour & Cu Chi Tunnels
In the morning, visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the war the network covers 3 levels and approximately 240km of tunnels. The tunnels were used by the guerrillas as living quarters and escape routes during the Vietnam War. Although originally very narrow, some parts have been widened for tourists and your family will have the opportunity to explore parts of the system.
Return to the city after the picnic lunch. Then begin the Saigon city tour to visit the War Remnant Museum, Reunification Hall, Old Central Post Office, and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Day 11: Saigon – Mekong Delta
This morning, drive to Cai Be in the Mekong Delta (about 2.5 hours of traveling). The Mekong, known as the rice bowl of Vietnam, produces much of Vietnam's fruit, sugar cane, and coconuts. Spend some time at Cai Be from where your family begins a Mekong River boat trip passing a floating market and visiting typical riverside villages where you will learn about some of the local products for which the Mekong Delta is famous such as popped rice, rice paper, and coconut candy. This is still a great opportunity to see a local market and the trade being conducted traditionally on a smaller scale. After lunch, continue our journey passing some magnificent countryside and stopping at some small cottage industries. The evening is tranquil as your family will have dinner on an Island and enjoy some 'Delta' hospitality. Spend the night sleeping at a guesthouse built in the style of a local house.
Day 12: Mekong Delta – Saigon
Today, take a walk through the fruit orchards and navigate our way through the small canals in a traditional wooden sampan. Later, rejoin our boat to rendezvous with our vehicle for the journey back to Saigon via a little-visited Cao Dai temple used by devotees of this strange indigenous religion, which fuses all the great religions of east and west.
Day 13: Saigon Free Day
This morning, visit the excellent Suoi Tien Amusement Park (Fairy Stream) with its slides and rides to allow the kids to let their hair down! After lunch, feel free at leisure to relax at the hotel or explore the vibrant Saigon.
Note: Suoi Tien Amusement Park can be replaced by other Saigon attractions and amusement. Tell us your favorite type of entertainment in the inquiry form below then our travel consultants will help your family customize your own travel.
